FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chinese New Year Steamboat Party for the Elderly at House of Hope

Georgetown, Penang, 27 January 2015 – WomenBizSENSE and JCI Pearl are joining forces to organize a steamboat party at House of Hope for some 120 elderly folks who live in the Air Itam Rifle Range flats this 13 February.

WomenBizSENSE is a women entrepreneur association while JCI Pearl is an NGO comprising young women between the ages of 18 and 40.

House of Hope is a drop-in centre located near Rifle Range and provides food, groceries and assistance to the disadvantaged children, single mothers and elderly folks who live in the Rifle Range flats.

The elderly walk to House of Hope daily to get their food which they take home in their tiffin carriers. Many of them live alone in their flats. Chinese New Year is often a sad and lonely occasion for many of them.

Noting this, WomenBizSENSE and JCI Pearl realised that it would be meaningful to organize a lunch party complete with ang pows and Mandarin oranges for these senior citizens. Members of both groups have generously contributed cash and foodstuff to make this party a success.

House of Hope administrator, Khoo Cheng See, has said many a time that the senior citizens often liked steamboat as they rarely get this special treat.

We welcome members, friends and guests to join us on 13 February, Friday, 11am – 2pm at House of Hope to celebrate this special occasion.
