
18 August 2018, George Town, Penang – WomenBizSENSE, a Penang-based women entrepreneur association, celebrated its 12 years of founding with a celebration dinner themed Bollywood Night at The TOP Komtar.
The Penang Chief Minister’s wife, Y. Bhg Madam Tan Lean Kee as well as the State Assemblyperson for Sungai Pinang, YB Lim Siew Khim joined the celebration together with the heads of other women organisations such as National Association of Women Entrepreneurs Malaysia (NAWEM), JCI Pearl, Soroptimist and Penang Women Development Corporation.
“I have personally worked with WomenBizSENSE members over the years in organising our Christmas events for the community and they really put in the time, effort and energy to help us make our events a success! This women entrepreneur group with a big heart is out to make a difference in Penang, not just to help their members, but the community at large,” said the Penang Chief Minister’s wife in her opening speech.

She also emphasized that women chose to run businesses because it gives them the flexibility which a full-time career does not have.
“Many women are finding that financial independence is crucial in this day and age and running a business is certainly one-way women can be financially independent and learn how to be leaders in their own right,” said Madam Tan.

Some 150 friends and members went home with door gifts and lucky draw prizes sponsored by generous businesses and brands such as Uncle Saba’s Poppadoms, Nori Cosmetics, The TOP Komtar, Penang Passion, Entopest, Thunder Print, Regus, Nature Quest Supplies, Precious Pages, Gleneagles Medical Centre, Perfectly Penang and more.

The women-only event also featured a best-dressed award for the top 3 women with the best Bollywood look.
WomenBizSENSE members also put up a Bollywood dance performance for the opening and closing of the event.

Friends and members also took part in a cake-cutting ceremony to commemorate 12 years of the founding of WomenBizSENSE, a homegrown women entrepreneur association in Penang started by Datin Josephine Yoong and Krista Goon in 2006.
Since its founding, WomenBizSENSE has become an organisation that helps women succeed at running their businesses. In the past 12 years, WomenBizSENSE has impacted the Penang business community by organising more than 140 talks and events as well as a successful entrepreneurship expo in 2016.
This self-funded non-profit organisation also rallies its members to help community organisations such as House of Hope and Special Children’s Centre. One of its programmes is to fund the bus fares of children from House of Hope on a yearly basis.
