George Town, Penang (10 March 2018) – Members of WomenBizSENSE, a women entrepreneur organisation in Penang, organised a special steamboat lunch for 70 senior citizens in conjunction with Chinese New Year at House of Hope. The senior citizens are part of the local Rifle Range community that House of Hope supports.
This event, led by WomenBizSENSE’s Social Responsibility Director, Tan Mei Ling, is part of the entrepreneur organisation’s yearly community event with House of Hope.
Besides preparing and serving the steamboat, WomenBizSENSE members also encouraged the seniors to sing their favourite Chinese New Year songs. The members also had a special “lou sang” session for the seniors for a more festive feel!
WomenBizSENSE chairperson, Regine Lim, distributed ang pows and mandarin oranges to the senior citizens.
This event was made possible with help from members and friends. Aside that, members, friends and local businesses also generously sponsored fresh vegetables, steamboat essentials and cash for this event.
WomenBizSENSE has been working closely with House of Hope since 2010 as a way of sharing abundance with the underprivileged. Besides the annual steamboat lunch which brings much joy to the seniors, WomenBizSENSE also organises a yearly Christmas party for the children and single mothers who are listed in the House of Hope database. Each year, WomenBizSENSE also sponsors the yearly bus fares for at least three students to enable them to attend school (many of them are too poor to afford bus fares).
