WBS Connect – Introducing Mily Goh

WBS Connect is a special lunch initiative where Josephine and Krista will invite 4 members each time to personally find out more about their business needs and wants. Nature of Business: Dealing with vehicle tyres, batteries, lubricants, service & repair

How did it start? 

This was a family business handed down which I currently manage with my mother and sister. I knew all along that it would be expected for me to join the business after my studies.

What do you love about your biz?

I enjoy trying to understand the different lifestyles of consumers of today and learning to adapt my business accordingly.

When customers appreciate what we do, it’s a great feeling!

Just yesterday, a customer we haven’t seen for awhile came by and was so happy when we could provide him good quality tyres (all 4 were desperately needed) and recommend him a special instalment plan too.

We had a ‘Women with Drive’ programme and it was great to empower women with knowledge andpractical hands-on with relation to their cars. The program coordinator has now approved for me to use their slides to conduct this program and I intend to collaborate with our WBS member Mimi to work on this.

A challenge is managing manpower so we are planning to eventually restructure the business to focus more on wholesale.

My Unique Selling Proposition:

Honesty in our tyre shop is an integral virtue for us. We have had customers share with us experiences elsewhere where the shops will recommend for more things to be changed than what was necessary. They know with us, we will give you a true blue honest assessment! So customers have come to rely on us to change only what needs to be changed.

With our key product, Goodyear tyres, we provide worry-free assurance by giving a special warranty (3 years for manufacturing defects, 6 months for road hazard related defects).

We make effort to give recommend payment plans which will benefit our customers if they choose to take up, eg which banks have instalment plans etc.

We also specialize in truck tyres, which not many shops do as this requires specialized skill.

As we are mainly women managing this business and I am very much hands-on, our customers sometimes find it rather unusual hearing explanations/ advice on cars from a woman. So it does require customers to break with the stereotype mindset.

Recommendations of clients especially to corporate companies. To support and help promote ‘Women with Drive’ program when we do run it.

How can you contribute to WBS?

I enjoy helping other WBS members look out for biz opportunities. Just the other day I heard over on Capital FM about something which would benefit one of our members in the organic personal careindustry and immediately shared the info with her.

I would like to see more seminars that we could help organize relating to self-improvement, women hairdo and make-up etc.

Ethical issues of the business:

Some competitors may undercut so we have had incidences where we have had to report to the supplier and they do deal with these.

We also have customers who are not honest in finding out information from us but we just have to patiently handle them.
